When A Showing Is Cancelled It Sucks!

Blog by Matt Carre | January 21st, 2014

When someone books a showing for one of our listings it's exciting.  We wonder, could this be the one?  We quickley text/call/tweet/IM (or whatever) our Client to let them know and they are usually excited too.  Matt and I currently have our house listed so we went through this just the other day.

We got a showing request with only an hour and fifteen minutes notice.  I always tell my Clients that I will let them know about a showing as soon as I do.  Sometimes we get 24 hours and sometimes an hour.  With just over an hour, I knew we had to hussle and hussle we did.  I like to start at the top and work my way down so I (litterally) ran through the house, folding towels, tossing toys into closets, shoving things under beds and into drawers, fluffing cushions, straightening, smoothing and wiping.  Lochlan (our 5 year old son) pitched in by mopping the floors and Matt chipped ice, shovelled snow and picked up doggie dodo.  I even suffered a massive bruise when my hip met the corner of the table (the table won).

We had 15 minutes before "show time" and I was straightening the kitchen sink cloth as the kids put on their coats when my phone chimmed in the distance.  I had that gut feeling that just wasn't right.  Upon picking up the phone my eyes noticed the word "cancel" and my heart sank before I even read the whole text.  I opened it up to confirm that it was the other agent cancelling the showing.

A swift combination of disappointment and frustration decended and for a moment I felt like I might become the Incredible Hulk (but I don't really like green so I stayed calm - sort of).  After Matt and I stared at each other and exchanged several "are you kidding me?" sentiments we shrugged our shoulders and Matt reminded me "it is what it is".  The good news was that the house was clean!

So if you have your house listed with us and a showing gets cancelled and I say "I know how you feel", I really do know how you feel.  Selling your house can be exhausting both physically and mentally and I truly understand that.  I'm here as a professional support with experience but also a personal support whose been in the trenches just like you are.  I'll be sharing more of my war stories in future blog posts but if you'd like to get together to hear about both our personal and professional experience in selling real estate just connect with us.

If you liked this post, we think you might like our Weekly Updates too.  They short and sweet with fun photos and useful tidbits.
