The Right Number of Homes to Look At Before You Buy

Blog by Matt Carre | December 12th, 2011

The reality of buying a house is that you just can’t look at them all.  It will eventually become confusing and you start to look at properties to see why they won’t work instead of why they will and that’s just counterproductive.  Finding a home is kind of like finding a partner.  You are going to go through some bad ones and some that look good on paper but aren’t great in real life.  With a home you may find a couple of really good ones and have to make a choice – if you get to do this with your mate you are likely on a dating show containing some sort of cheesy flower ceremony.

If you fall in love with the first house that’s great but I still recommend looking at a few others to compare value.  When you write an offer I’m going to sit down and review a market analysis with you so you have a clear understanding of the market value of the house you want to buy but it doesn’t hurt to have actually been in some of the other listings.

In the end it comes down to a gut feeling, you just know it when you are standing in the right house.  As a REALTOR getting to witness that moment when people see themselves living in a home is truly one of the best parts of my job.
