WTF - I mean WTG?

Blog by Matt Carre | January 24th, 2013

This winter we will be adding two new agents to our Group. I won't reveal too much right now but one has a voice as smooth as butter and the other is a firecracker!  Growing our Group begs the question why the group (WTG)?

The simple answer is quality of life and these are three contributing factors to achieving that in business.

1.) Support

In our business we are in direct competition with everyone at our Christmas party and we have to be somewhat guarded in what we say at the water cooler.  Having a Group allows us to give and receive support which is a huge contributor in having a good quality of life.  Whether it is personal or business, having others you can turn to for advice, to help you up when you are down or cheer on your success is important.

2.) Growth

The sum is greater than the parts.  I think a group of different people with different backgrounds who are like-minded can brainstorm new ideas and strategies greater than any one individual.  Being able to be part of a Group of people where you can grow your ideas, make them better and make them a reality is exciting and that's the environment we strive to create.

3.) Vacation

One of Stephen Covey's habits in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is Sharpen The Saw.  To me this means two different things, one we have to continue to hone our skills and learn new things and two we must make sure we are operating at our top level.  The only way to do that is to get rest.  All batteries die (even the bunny stops) and they need to be re-charged.  I find some of my most effective work is done right after I come back from a vacation.  I'm energized, I've had a chance to think of new ideas and I'm ready to go.  The challenge is actually going on vacations when you are self employed (aka you eat what you kill).  When I'm away I want to know my Clients are receiving the same care and attention that I would give them.  Having another member of our Group supporting my Clients when I am away gives me that peace of mind.  I know everyone in our group is going to do business with the same level of care and integrity so I know my Clients will be taken care of the way they should be.

I've only ever done real estate as a member of a group and I don't think I would do it any other way.  If you get clear about why the group exists and get the right people on the bus (Good to Great) I think it can be a huge key to business success.

What does being part of a group (business or personal) mean to you?  Leave a comment below, we'd love to hear from you.

I've also started a personl blog, take a look!
