2012 Airdrie Census Results

Blog by Matt Carre | December 6th, 2012

The 2012 Airdrie Census Results are in, so I thought I would share some of the highlights with you:

  • Our population is 45,711, which is up 5.92% from last year

  • The population has more than doubled in the last 10 years

  • The total number of dwellings is 17,174, up 6.82% from last year

  • Almost 73% of residents own their home

The two areas with the most number of dwellings are Big Springs & Luxstone.  Both have over 1200 dwellings while no other area broke 1000.  Those areas also have the most number of people living there as compared to other areas.  Sagewood came third for areas with the highest number of residents.

The following areas have an average of 3 or more people per residence: Thorburn, Morningside, Cooper's Crossing, Fairways & Sunridge.  All other areas had an average of less than 3.  None of the areas had an average of 4 or higher.  I found this very insteresting because a lot of families I know have 2 kids.

As far as who we are; 27.5% of the population is between the ages of 30-44 and the second highest age group is 0-14(25% of the population).  So over half the population of Airdrie is made up of young families.  Over 73% of people have lived in Airdrie for more than 2 years.  For folks who have moved here within the last two years over 50% came from Calgary and over 27% came from elsewhere in Alberta.  Finally our split between the ladies and gents is almost 50/50.
