Transitional Curb Appeal

Blog by Matt Carre | March 21st, 2012

At this time of year there is a lot of talk about spring cleaning.  We want to get outside plant flowers and set out the patio furniture.  However when you live in Alberta you know that a week of beautiful weather could very easily be followed by a blizzard (and not the kind with cookie dough chunks).  After seeing your crocus' covered with snow and die before the beginning of May you quickly learn that one must wait until after the May long weekend to beautify the outside of their home, but do you really have to wait?

I say NO, infact don't wait.  There are little things that you can do to spruce up your curb and yard appeal during this transitional time of the year.  Start with a good ol' clean up.  Over the winter the wind will drop off lots of goodies in your yard and flower beds so picking up that garbage will make a huge difference.  Speaking of "goodies", don't forget about Fido and his contributions - especially if your home is on the market.  It is very distracting for potential buyers to have to avoid "poopie traps" instead of taking in the yard and what it offers.  Finally I suggest straightening up.  When it's minus 30 out we spend as little time outside as possible so items can be disgarded in a haphazard way.  A few minutes of tidying can make a big difference.

It's hard to go all out when we are between seasons but there are definitely ways to keep your place looking good.  Be proud of your home whether you rent it, own it, have lived there for years or just moved it.  A presentable home is a well cared for home and that's what most buyers are looking for.
