Carre's In Chi-Town

Blog by Matt Carre | July 8th, 2014

Over the long weekend Matt and I had a chance to go to Chicago for a couple of days while our kids were camping glamping with Grandma & Grandpa.

What a great city!  It's beautiful, the downtown area was safe and it was very walkable.  Of course the first thing on our list was to have some Deep Dish Pizza...  It was great!  We tried two of the recommended places while we were there.  This photo is from Lou Malnatis on North State Street and it was my favourite.  The other one we tried was Giordano's on North Rush.  I'm not a huge fan of gobs of melted cheese but if you are Giordano's is the one to go to.

We checked out a few other Chicago highlights including The Bean and a Cubs game (complete with hot dogs and beer).  The bean which is actally titled Cloud Gate and is located at Millenium Park.  It's made up of stainless steel plates that are highly polised to show no visable seams - pretty cool!

The Cubs game was great, it was super hot but my Lime-a-rita helped with that!

Of course we had to check out the Sears Tower (which has recently been renamed the Willis Tower).  I wasn't a big fan of standing on the glass floor a zillion feet above the street below but I faked a good smile.  Matt had no issue with it, in fact he took the opportunity to leap...

All in all it was a great trip.  The Chicago downtown area was lovely to walk around and the weather was beautiful and not windy at all....  If you are headed to Chicago let us know we'd love share our experience with you and hear about your trip!
